The City of Hartsville, in partnership with Sonoco Recycling, has created a program to encourage small businesses in downtown Hartsville to recycle much of their waste and divert materials from heading to landfills.

Participants in Hartsville's "Green Businesses" program have been given 95-gallon roll carts for collecting all paper, cardboard, junk mail, magazines and phonebooks, plastic bottles and jugs (types 1 -7), tin, metals, and aluminum.
